FBrf0229263 indicates that the 'blue' genetic complementation group (named based on an ovarian phenotype seen in germline clones) does not correspond to the CG6451 annotation as previously thought. The CG6451 annotation has thus been split out into a separate gene from blue in release 6.08 of the genome annotation, and has been renamed "CG46284" to avoid confusion.
The 'blue' complementation group, which was named based on an ovarian phenotype in germline clones, was previously thought to correspond to CG6451, based on a P-element insertion chromosome. However, EMS alleles of blue are complemented by Df(3L)Neurl4 which lacks the entire CG6451 gene, and a genomic rescue construct containing CG6451 does not rescue the lethality associated with mutant blue alleles, indicating that CG6451 does not correspond to blue.
