Reported as a missense mutation in the second coding exon of Vha55 in the Glu of the string AREEV from GAG to AAG. Also carries a T to C mutation in an upstream intron.
Vha5514 homozygous flies expressing Vha55Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PU (rescue flies) are viable and their Malphigian tubules show normal resting secretion rates but reduced maximum stimulation fluid secretion.
Mutants sometimes have clear Malpighian tubules (when examined by birefringence).
