The number of corpora cardiaca cells is increased in mutant late stage 17 embryos (110.2 +/- 23.7 cells) compared to wild type (14.0 +/- 0.8 cells). The number of insulin producing cells is reduced in the mutant stage 17 embryos (2.3 +/- 1.7 cells) compared to wild type (12.5 +/- 2.5).
When single cell somatic clones are made in the eye, ommatidia with too many or too few neural cells can be seen. Occasionally ommatidia containing one or more mutant cells differentiate eight photoreceptor cells in the normal arrangement. In these cases each of the R1-R7 photoreceptor cells is able to contribute to a normally constructed ommatidium without Dl.
