Heterozygotes with SerBd-3 die as pharate adults with abnormalities in the leg such as fusion of the femur and tibial segments and loss of the wing blade. Homozygotes and hemizygotes are viable.
In combination with Nl93 or Df(1)N-54l9, SerBd-3/Ser+r83k escapers exhibit phenotypically normal eyes and legs but lack halteres and had wing blades one half normal size.
