When fz2Scer\UAS.cCa is driven by Scer\GAL4C96 mutant wings have notched wings and ectopic bristles near the wing margin.

Expression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using four days of pulsed heat shock treatment consistently produces more follicle cells that accumulate between egg chambers. These extra follicle cells form long stalks with multiple rows of cells instead of one row in the wild type.

When fz2Scer\UAS.cCa is driven by Scer\GAL4C57 synaptic boutons lack Subsynaptic reticulum, active zones and mitochondria.

Expression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a mild ectopic wg phenotype in the dorsal epidermis of the embryo, consisting of expanded 4o cells at the expense of 3o cells (in wild-type embryos each parasegment contains 4 types of cells in the dorsal epidermis; the 1o, 2o and 3o cells in the anterior half of the parasegment and the 4o cells in the posterior half of the parasegment).

Overexpression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in ectopic margin bristles in the wing.

Uniform expression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa in the wing pouch by Scer\GAL469B leads to wings with ectopic bristles.

Ubiquitous overexpression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c does not alter epidermal patterning in a wild-type background.

Animals expressing fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4h-1J3 usually die as pupae at 29oC. At lower temperatures, some escapers are seen. These adults have ectopic bristles on the wing blades. Ectopic bristles in the anterior compartment are almost always of the slender or chemosensory type, although an occasional stout bristle is also seen. Ectopic bristles in the posterior compartment are similar to the noninnervated bristles seen at the posterior margin. This "hairy wing" phenotype is also seen in flies expressing fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL469B or Scer\GAL471B.

Smooth cuticle formation in wgl-17/wgl-17 embryos is not restored by fz2Scer\UAS.cCa; Scer\GAL4prd.RG1.

Coexpression of wgl-12.Scer\UAS and fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL430A results in a diminution of axillary sclerite 3 in the wing hinge.

The notching and loss of margin bristles seen in arr2 clones in the wing is not suppressed if fz2Scer\UAS.cCa is expressed in these flies under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096.

The ectopic bristles produced by expression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL469B are strikingly reduced in fz2Scer\UAS.cCa, dally06464/Scer\GAL469B, dally06464 flies.

Overexpression of fz2Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c in a wgl-17/+ background results in cuticle patterning defects in 60% of embryos; ectopic denticles appear in the domain of cells that normally secrete naked cuticle.

Comments

Rescues the embryonic cuticle phenotype of double mutants of fz21 or fz23 with Df(3L)fz2.

The RP2/sib lineage defects seen in fz2 deficient Df(3L)N2-27 embryos are partially rescued by fz2Scer\UAS.cCa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS.
