Mosaic animals in which the eyes are made homozygous for Syb^25-77 fail to develop eyes and all or nearly all of the ommatidia are missing.

Trachea within Syb^25-77 somatic clones are unable to form a lumen and deliver oxygen to the target, however, Syb⁺ tracheal cells in neighbouring segments grow into the detracheated region. Syb⁺ tracheal cells not bordering the cone are unaffected.
