Homozygous escapers (which are sterile) are occasionally seen. These escapers have defects in the wing.
Adult survivors transheterozygotes with RpL153, RpL1572, RpL157-1 or RpL158-1 are sterile with underdeveloped gonads and show reduced body size, small and thin bristles, rough and/or reduced eyes, misrotated genitalia (males) and wing, wing vein and wing hair phenotypes. Reducing the growth temperature to 22oC (as compared to 25oC) increases the incidence of homozygote survivors. Sex ratios are also skewed in favour of females in the survivors. Exceptions are the RpL15PΔ2/RpL15PΔ8 and RpL158-1/RpL15PΔ2 combinations where sex ratios are normal.
RpL15PΔ2/RpL15PΔ8 is rescued by Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU/RpL15cDNA.UAS
