Detailed Description

Rough eye phenotype. This phenotype is correlated with prolonged M phase in the eye disc. The population of M-phase cells in the region posterior to the morphogenetic furrow of MybΔC.GMR discs is 58% larger than the corresponding region of wild type discs. There is no difference in the region anterior to the morphogenetic furrow. BrdU labeling shows no extra cell cycles posterior to the MF. In cross sections ommatidia contain abnormal numbers of photoreceptor cells. Ommatidia are mis-shapen. Rhabdomeres are immature. Cell death is induced in the eye disc posterior to the morphogenetic furrow, though this does not happen in wild type discs.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Suppression of MybΔC.GMR is complete for the phenotypically moderate P{GMR-Myb.ΔC}F54 line but only partial for the more phenotypically severe P{GMR-Myb.ΔC}F25 line. Suppression is well correlated with number of M-phase cells posterior to the morphogenetic furrow. BacA\p35GMR.PH suppresses the cell death defect of eye discs posterior to the morphogenetic furrow, but not the rough eye phenotype.
