Description

UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of amino acids 1-1028 of ed (the entire extracellular region, the entire predicted transmembrane domain and an additional 11 amino acids after the transmembrane domain). Encodes a dominant negative protein.

Animals expressing edExt.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL469B have extra vein material at the distal end of wing vein 2. Animals expressing edExt.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4T80 have extra vein material at the distal end of wing vein 2, and occasionally, notching of the distal wing tip. The scutellum has extra sensory bristles. Animals expressing edExt.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 have an increased number of macrochaetae, particularly in the scutellar region. The extra bristle phenotype is accompanied by loss of epidermal tissue, resulting in a smaller scutellum. Microchaetae are duplicated or quadrupled and missing their sockets, or are missing completely. Expression of edExt.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1 results in a slight increase in the number of microchaetae on the adult thorax.

Co-expression of both DlScer\UAS.cDa and edExt.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Eq1 significantly increases the density of microchaetae on the adult thorax (the increase is greater than an additive combination of the phenotypes seen when DlScer\UAS.cDa or edExt.Scer\UAS are expressed singly using Scer\GAL4Eq1). Adults expressing both edExt.Scer\UAS and HLHm7Scer\UAS.cdCa simultaneously under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 show the same loss of bristles phenotype as flies expressing HLHm7Scer\UAS.cdCa alone under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237.
