Nf1P2/Nf1c00617 male or female flies sleep significantly less than wild type.

Nf1c00617 males are smaller than control males, while females show no change.

Nf1c00617 flies exhibit 3 minute, 3 hour, and 24 hour memory deficits. In training trial assays, where flies are repeatedly trained with odor avoidance assays, Nf1P1 flies perform poorly even after one trial, but then exhibit wild-type levels of olfactory memory acquisition. When Nf1c00617 mutants and controls are both trained with three trials, immediate memory is identical (when performance is normalised to the control so memory decay can be compared). Likewise, memory tested at two subsequent time points is indistinguishable.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa in mushroom body neurons during development and adulthood under the control of inducible Scer\GAL4Mef2.247.Switch (in a RU486 environment) completely rescues the 3 hour memory phenotype seen in Nf1c00617 mutants. Expression only during adulthood is sufficient for complete rescue.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa in α'/β' neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4c305a is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of Nf1c00617 homozygous mutants.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa in γ neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4NP1131 is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of Nf1c00617 homozygous mutants.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa throughout the central brain under the control of Scer\GAL4Mz1081 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype found in Nf1c00617 mutants.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa throughout the central brain under the control of Scer\GAL4NP0009 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype found in Nf1c00617 mutants.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa in the α/β mushroom body neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4c739 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype found in Nf1c00617 mutants.

Expression of Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa in the central core of α/β mushroom body neurons under the control of Scer\GAL417d is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype found in Nf1c00617 mutants.

The Nf1c00617 3 hour memory phenotype is fully rescued when Scer\GAL4c747 is used to express Nf1Scer\UAS.cBa. However, flies also carrying Scer\GAL80Mef2.PT exhibit a performance score that is indistinguishable from Nf1c00617 homozygous mutants.
