Insertion in a 15kb intron of twin.
At room temperature, hemizygous females show a number of egg chamber defects; 37% of egg chambers degrade between stages 3 and 10, 16% have a division defect (the egg chambers contain less than 16 germ cells), 24% fail to specify an oocyte, and 11% have defects in both germ cell number and oocyte specification. The fusome appears normal in size and extends throughout the cysts. Some twinry3/twinry5 egg chambers contain cells with more than four ring canals, indicating that the cells have divided more than four times.
twinry3 has egg chamber phenotype, suppressible by CycA[+]/CycAunspecified
twinry3 has egg chamber phenotype, suppressible by bamhs.PO
twinry3 has egg chamber phenotype, non-suppressible by CycB[+]/CycBunspecified
twinry3 has egg chamber phenotype, non-suppressible by CycE[+]/CycEunspecified
The frequency of the degrading egg chamber phenotype seen in twinry3 hemizygotes is markedly suppressed by CycAunspecified/+, but is not significantly altered by CycBunspecified/+ or CycEunspecified/+. The egg chamber defects seen in twinry3 hemizygotes at 25oC are partly suppressed by expression of bamhs.PO.
Allelic series: twinS1 > twinry3 ~ twinry5 > twinS3. Precise excision of the P-element reverts the mutant phenotype.
