egg10.1a/Df(2R)Dll-MP transheterozygotes are semi-lethal, display a low male:female ratio, and the few males die within 2-3 days; egg10.1a/Df(2R)ED4065 transheterozygotes are near lethal and no adult males eclose. egg10.1a/Df(2R)Dll-MP and egg10.1a/Df(2R)ED4065 transheterozygous adults exhibit shaky, uncoordinated movements and held-out wings that are incompletely expanded, as compared to controls; the locomotor and wing phenotypes of egg10.1a/Df(2R)Dll-MP transheterozygotes are more pronounced in males than in females.

egg10.1a suppresses the position effect variegation of the w gene that is seen in the P{hsp26-pt-T}Dyrk3118E-15 insertion.

Homozygous egg10.1a mutants die at late pupal stage with no escapers. The same phenotype is observed in individuals transheterozygous for egg10.1a and the chromosomal deficiency Df(2R)ED4065.

egg10.1a is a recessive suppressor of variegation of chromosome 4.
