Expressing ifJF02695 under the control of Scer\GAL4repo (in combination with a Dicer-2 transgene to enhance RNAi efficiency) results in decreased glial cell numbers and an abnormal distribution of glial cells in the eye discs and optic stalks of second and third instar larvae. Together with a lack of cell death, this points towards defective cell migration. Photoreceptor axon attachment to the neural lamella and targeting to the optic stalk are unaffected.

Third instar larvae expressing ifJF02695 under the control of Scer\GAL4repo exhibit unwrapped, defasciculated and disorganized photoreceptor axon bundles, and a severely reduced fenestrated membrane in eye discs. The neural lamella is unaffected.

Scer\GAL4Mef2.PR-mediated expression of ifJF02695, induced at the end of the first larval instar stage using the Scer\GAL80 system, results in muscle attachment defects.
