Estimated endpoints of 2.81 kb deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{GSV6}picoGS9133. The deletion extends from the insertion into the pico gene.
Hemizygous picok1 larvae are dramatically reduced in size, with severely reduced endoreplicated tissue and little or no detectable imaginal disc tissue. Larvae die following an extended larval period of up to 2 weeks.
Somatic clones of picok1 in the wing disc are not readily detected. Mutant clones contain an average of 5 cells, and are found localised to the basal surface of the wing imaginal disc.
Reduced tissue growth resulting from ectopic expression of picoScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP in the wing by Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 is enhanced by removing one copy of picok1.
Expression of picoScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\His6,T:Hsap\MYC alone or with picoL.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC,T:Zzzz\FLAG, under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB and heat-shock, rescues the lethality of picok1 mutant males.
