    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

In beP1 homozygotes and beP1/beEY08069 adults, long-term memory resulting from Pavlovian olfactory learning tested 1 day after spaced training (10 training sessions with a 15 minute rest between each) is significantly impaired. However, no effect is seen on long term memory tested 1 day after massed training (10 training sessions with no intervals) or on the rate of memory loss after after a single training session.

Recordings from a neuro-muscular junction (muscle 12, segment 3 or 4) show that while the mean amplitude of spontaneous mini excitatory junction currents (EJCs) is normal in beP1/+ animals, the mean amplitude of evoked EJCs is significantly lower than normal (by nearly 35%), consistent with a drop in quantal content to ~65% of wild-type. The synaptic structure at neuro-muscular junctions appears to be normal in these animals.

In beP1/ScampEP1593 adults, long-term memory resulting from Pavlovian olfactory learning tested 1 day after spaced training (10 training sessions with a 15 minute rest between each) is significantly impaired. However, no effect is seen on long term memory tested 1 day after massed training (10 training sessions with no intervals) or on the rate of memory loss after after a single training session. This phenotype is not seen in beP1/+ or ScampEP1593/+ animals.

mRNA levels of be are reduced, but those of hiw and CG5541 or normal. The long term memory phenotype is reverted by precise excision of P{lacW}beP1
