eye, with Scer\GAL4ey.PU
Flies expressing Prp31NIG.6876R under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU have eyes which are either smaller in size than normal and abnormal in shape or are completely absent (approximately 90% of these flies have some kind of eye defect). The flies show extensive signs of neurodegeneration in the intra-ommatidial space around the rhabdomeres, with significant reduction in the sizes of the rhabdomeres. Loss of pigment cells and the presence of multi-vesicular bodies and autophagic vacuoles is also seen in the eye.

The eye neurodegeneration defects seen in flies expressing Prp31NIG.6876R under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU are partially rescued if they also express either Hsap\PRPF31GMR.T:Avic\GFP or Hsap\PRPF31AD5.GMR.T:Avic\GFP. The external eye defects seen in flies expressing Prp31NIG.6876R under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU are partially rescued if they also express Hsap\PRPF31GMR.T:Avic\GFP.
