viable, with Scer\GAL4c747
Flies expressing RdlScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4c747 show poorer learning compared to controls after appetitive olfactory conditioning with 1.0M and 2.0M sucrose presented with a conditioned odor. These flies show normal responses to odors and sucrose, indicating the phenotype is not caused by defective sensation.
Overexpression of RdlScer\UAS.cLa with Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf causes flies to fall asleep faster, remain asleep longer, and show a decrease in sleep latency than controls in the day and night.
Of seven undriven independent insertions of RdlScer\UAS.cLa, all are male sterile.
Animals overexpressing RdlScer\UAS.cLa by Scer\GAL4c747 show a 30% reduction in olfactory learning compared to controls. Poor olfactory conditioning is independent of the number of shocks received.
Flies of the genotype Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B,Scer\GAL4c747/RdlScer\UAS.cLa show a significantly reduced olfactory conditioning performance when shifted to 32[o]C post-eclosion, compared to controls. This effect was seen as soon as 3-6hrs after temperature shift.
