Expression of M6NIG.7540R under the control of Scer\GAL4dm-PG45 in adult females (using the temperature sensitive Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B allele to restrict expression) results in a dramatic reduction in female fertility compared to controls after shifting to 29[o]C. There is a clear increase in the percentage of permeable eggs laid by these females as the time they are maintained at 29[o]C increases. The permeable egg phenotype is reversible upon shifting back to 18[o]C.
Females expressing M6NIG.7540R under the control of Scer\GAL4dm-PG45 at 29[o]C (to inactivate the temperature-sensitive Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B repressor) show defects in oogenesis, such as disorganisation and even total disruption of the follicular epithelium. Alterations in follicle cell shape changes compared to wild type are also seen during oogenesis, including loss of columnar follicle cells in mid-oogenesis accompanied with impaired centripetal migration of follicle cells at stage 10B.
