When GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU, fewer flies than expected survive to adulthood.

Expression of GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a degenerative retinal phenotype in aging flies. Photoreceptor organisation is disrupted in 25-day-old flies expressing GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1. In addition, these flies show large vacuoles and lacunae in the lamina cortex.

The external morphology (ommatidial arrays, apical bristle number and organization) of the eye of flies expressing GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1 under the control of both Scer\GAL4ey.PH and Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is indistinguishable of that of wild-type flies. However, progressive degeneration of photoreceptor cells is observed in aging mutants including an apparent loss of rhabdomere and pigment granules.

The bchsEP2299-overexpression phenotype in the eye is enhanced when GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1 is co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF resulting in a reduction in eye size and a marked bleaching in the middle of the eye.

Co-expression of GgadsRNA.Scer\UAS.1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF ameliorates the rough eye phenotype caused by GgaScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-overexpression.
