Detailed Description

A low frequency of mild defects in dorsal closure is seen in embryos expressing AckScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1.

Expression of AckScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB in 6 to 12 hour embryos using a 1 hour heat shock results in approximately half the embryos failing to survive to the first larval instar stage. Of the dead embryos, 45% have germband retraction failures, 20% have holes in the dorsal cuticle (indicating failure of dorsal closure) and 25% do not secrete any cuticle.

Flies expressing AckScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have rough eyes which are smaller than normal. The ommatidia are disorganised and consistently missing in a band running dorsoventrally across the middle of the eye. The pattern of interommatidial bristles is disrupted, with bristles being missing in some areas of the eye and excessive in numbers in others.

Co-expression of AckScer\UAS.cSa partially suppresses the dorsal closure defects caused by expression of Cdc42N17.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using heat shock.
