UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a short inverted repeat.
Expression of shrbHMS01767 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG results in a number of defects in the female germline stem cells (GSCs). Approximately 45% of the GSCs form 'stem cysts' in which they are interconnected to several daughter cells (both linear and branched chains of cells are seen) and approximately 10% of the GSCs are polyploid. Approximately 50% of the egg chambers contain 32 germ cells.
More than 50% of egg chambers contain 32 cells in females expressing shrbHMS01767 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG. In these egg chambers, the oocyte is linked to the nurse cells by 5 ring canals. Approximately 50% of germaria contain 'stem cysts' in which the female germline stem cells are interconnected to daughter cells. The cells in these stem cysts undergo synchronous division.
Egg chambers containing 32 cells are seen in females expressing shrbHMS01767 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG in the presence of Scer\GAL80bam.PM.
Females expressing shrbHMS01767 under the control of Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16 have egg chambers containing the normal number of 16 cells.
