Expressing p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT induces apoptosis (cleaved Dcp1) and loss of photoreceptor cells in the adult retina.

The expression of p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT induces the formation of autophagosomes (Atg8a puncta and TEM) in the photoreceptor cells of the retina, as compared to controls. There are apparent defects in autophagic flux ( autophagosome:autolysosome ratio, inferred from the yellow:red ratio of mCherry-GFP-Atg8a puncta).

Expression of p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU causes an increase in apoptosis (activated caspase-3 staining), a significant increase in proliferation (PH3 staining), protruding overgrowths and disruption of the dorso-ventral boundary in the wing pouch domain, compared to controls, with no proliferation change in the notum region; the entire wing disc is reduced in size compared to controls; adult wings of this genotype have clear morphological defects, including extreme notching when raised at 17 celsius.

Expression of p53Scer\UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 induces apoptosis in wing discs. Increased cell proliferation and tissue folding is seen compared to controls. An increase in apoptosis is also seen when p53Scer\UAS.Dp53 is expressed in a p535A-1-4 mutant background.

Addition of N55e11/+ to individuals expressing p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU exacerbates the decrease in wing disc size, reduces wing pouch protruding overgrowths and results in much smaller adult wings compared to controls; addition of Dp(1;3)DC109/+ instead prevents the decrease in wing disc size, exacerbates wing pouch protruding overgrowths and results in adult wings that have blisters and overgrowths that are not seen in controls.

Additional expression of NTRiP.cUa in individuals expressing p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU reduces wing pouch protruding overgrowths and suppresses the size decrease of the wing disc.

Additional expression of Diap1UAS.cUa in individuals expressing p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU reduces cell death (activated caspase 3 staining), but does not prevent overgrowths in the wing pouch; these Diap1UAS.cUa and p53UAS.DΔNp53 co-expressing wing discs become smaller upon additional expression of NTRiP.cUa.

The expression of p53Scer\UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PU suppresses the significant proportion of hyperplastic adult testes in p53E8 homozygotes, as well as the increased necrosis at their apical tip.

Additional expression of p53TRiP.cUa mostly rescues the adult wing morphological defects caused by expression of p53UAS.DΔNp53 under the control of Scer\GAL4sd.PU.
