Expression of Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of one of Scer\GAL4h.PU, Scer\GAL4drm.7.1, Scer\GAL4hs.PU, Scer\GAL4wg.PU, Scer\GAL4ptc.PU, Scer\GAL4elav.PU, Scer\GAL4dpp.PU or Scer\GAL4ftz.ng allows significantly higher adult survival in the presence of a concentration of G418 which is lethal to wild-type controls. Expression of Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU does not result in survival under these conditions.

Animals expressing Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4drm.7.1 and challenged with G418 develop into significantly smaller adults than control unchallenged animals.

Animals expressing Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PU and challenged with G418 sometimes develop into adults with wing abnormalities.

Expression of Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU results in 100% adult survival in the presence of a concentration of G418 which is lethal to wild-type controls.

Expression of Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control ofScer\GAL4h.PU results in 100% adult survival in the presence of a concentration of G418 which is lethal to wild-type controls. The challenged larvae show a developmental delay of approximately 2-3 days under these conditions.

The developmental delay which is seen in animals expressing Tn\neoRScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control ofScer\GAL4h.PU and exposed to G418 during their development is retained in several generations of progeny of these animals grown for multiple generations in a G418-free environment, before reverting to the normal phenotype. A heritable delay in development is also seen if expression is driven using Scer\GAL4drm.7.1.
