Description

Fragment encoding a deleted form of rhea which lacks amino acids 1-450 and is tagged at the N-terminal end with GFP. It comprises 16284bp 5' of the rhea ATG start codon, the GFP tag, a 4 Ser linker, and rhea gene sequences extending from amino acid residue 451 through to 925bp 3' of the stop codon.

Df(3L)79a embryos carrying rheaΔhead.T:Avic\GFP show complete muscle detachment (quantified as greater than 40% shortening of the dorsal muscles). Germband retraction is not affected in the mutant embryos.

The expression of rheaΔhead.T:Avic\GFP in Df(3L)79a homozygous follicle cell clones leads to a strong reduction in the number of ectopic VincCO.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Equa\eqFP578-TagRFP-positive cytoplasmic protein aggregates observed upon Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU-driven expression in those clones.

More than 25% of Df(3L)79a, rheaΔhead.T:Avic\GFP Df(1)Vinc2 double mutant embryos fail to undergo germband retraction, a stronger phenotype than seen in Df(3L)79a, rheaΔhead.T:Avic\GFP single mutant embryos.
