The expression of Nhe2UAS.E358I.Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4109-30 leads to a significant decrease in intracellular pH in pre-follicle and follicle cells within the germarium, as compared to controls.

Externally, the retinae of flies expressing Nhe2Scer\UAS.E358I.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU show subtle defects in patterning, including rare bristle placement defects. Internally, no ommatidial defects are evident.

The intracellular pH (pHi) in pupal eyes expressing Nhe2Scer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU is similar to controls.
