The few ari-1A homozygous and ari-1A/ari-1D transheterozygous escapers show a severely decreased lifespan as compared to controls; ari-1A homozygotes rescued to adulthood by a copy Dp(1;3)DC342 or by the expression of ari-1UAS.cFa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 also show decreases (although less severe) in lifespan; ari-1A escapers display thin macro and microchaeta.

ari-1A homozygous clones in mosaic individuals can reach large sizes in various tissues; eye clones show synaptic transmission defects (i.e. reduced ON transients but normal amplitude in electroretinograms).

Body wall muscles in ari-1A/ari-1B transheterozygous, ari-1A/Df(1)BSC352 transheterozygous and ari-1A homo/heterozygous third instar larvae frequently show nuclei clustering together or in contact with each other, instead of the typically even spaced in controls; ari-1A homozygous larvae, however, do not show significant changes in myonuclear number. In ari-1A homozygous and ari-1A/ari-1D transheterozygous backgrounds, these nuclei exhibit a smaller size and an irregular shape (uneven nuclear envelope), are displaced from the cell membrane, and do not seem to be surrounded by a microtubule cytoskeletal network. ari-1A/ari-1B transheterozygous adult indirect flight muscles and ari-1A homozygous larval body wall muscles do not display obvious mitochondrial morphology defects.
