αTub84BK40A mutant larvae show significantly decreased responses (rolling) to gentle and harsh touch (at 44mN), and to sound, but not to noxious heat (39.5[o]C), as compared to controls. αTub84BK40A mutant larvae, however, do not exhibit obvious locomotion defects.

In αTub84BK40A mutant larvae, C3da neuron dendrites present significantly more microtubules (Futsch immunostaining) than controls.

αTub84BK40A larval class IV da neurons do not show apparent changes to the polarized dendritic localization of Golgi outposts ( ManII::GFP-labelled ). Retrograde transport of lysosomes in dendrites exhibits a significant decrease in speed but a significant increase in flux, whereas the anterograde transport is not affected, as compared to controls; lysosome transport in axons (both anterograde and retrograde) is not affected. Although the overall dendritic coverage appears normal, there is a progressive increase in the number of terminal branches (increase observed at 120h AEL, but not at 48h AEL), as compared to controls; dendrites show a significantly higher frequency of extension events, despite of no change in de novo branch growth or in retraction events, as compared to controls. There is a severe decrease in growing microtubules (EB1 comets) in dendrites, but not in axons, as compared to controls.
