Gene Snapshot
salty dog (salt) encodes a sodium/solute symporter in the SLC5 family involved in response to salt stress. [Date last reviewed: 2019-03-21]
Gene Group (FlyBase)
SLC5 FAMILY OF SODIUM-DEPENDENT SOLUTE TRANSPORTERS -
Solute carrier family 5 (SLC5) members are sodium:solute symporters. The SLC5 family is most widely known for the import of glucose across the plasma membrane, but members of this group have been shown to transport a variety of solutes such as sugars, vitamins and choline. (Adapted from FBrf0214274, PMID:32810346 and PMID:32767111).

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry Q9V9U2)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Testis-specificity index

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

salt expression is observedby in situ hybridiation in the principle cells ( but not the stellate cells) along the length of the tubule but particularly in the main segment. No staining is seen in the initial segment.

One of the introns of CG2196 has the sequence and structural characteristics of a "mirtron"- mirtrons are encoded as an intron of another gene which accumulate as a lariats after splicing and require debranching enzyme for conversion into a functional miRNA. The mirtron encoded by the CG2196 intron is mir-1014.
