One copy of P{SxlcF1} in wild type males, even under nonheat shock conditions, recovers only 2% of expected males.
Phenotype varies upon site of insertion. Weak class insertions have no obvious effect on male phenotype at 25oC or 29oC, with one or two copies of the transgene. One copy of the moderate class of insertion reduces male viability at 25oC and becomes more severe at 29oC. At 25oC males are intersexes with varying degrees of feminization and are sterile, at 29oC male escapers display this same phenotype. The strong class of insertion causes male lethality at 25oC and 29oC. All phenotype are in the presence of Sxl+.
SxlF1.hs, Sxlf1, tra1 has abnormal sex-determination phenotype, non-enhanceable by snf+t5.5
SxlF1.hs is a suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir2f
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir3
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir4
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir5
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir6
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/vir7
SxlF1.hs is a non-suppressor of lethal | female | larval stage phenotype of virunspecified/virts
The addition of up to three copies of P{snf+,dhd+} to Sxlf1/Y;SxlF1.hs, tra1 partially feminized males does not enhance the feminisation or lethality phenotypes seen in these flies.
Carried in plasmid "pB-Shsp-SxlF1cDNA", transfected into Schneider cells and used to study the role of competing splice sites in Sxl autoregulation.
Carried in plasmid "hsp-SxlF1" and assayed in Drosophila Kc cells.
Phenotype variability is due to quantitative variation of expression at different sites of insertion. Transgene does not have full female function.
Carried in plasmid "hsp-SxlF1cDNA".
Strong class of insertion exhibits constitutive expression in the absence of heat shock.
Expresses the female-specific protein in the male.
Carried in a plasmid, and cotransfected into SL-2 cells, to study the effect.
