If up to four copies of P{snf+,dhd+} are added to Sxlf7,M1/Y, males are fully viable. If up to four copies of P{snf+,dhd+}

are added to flies with Dp(1;1)jnR1-A ( which contains a duplication

of Sxl+), males are fully viable. If up to 10 copies of P{snf+,dhd+}

are added to wild-type flies males are fully viable and somatically

wild-type.

However, the combination of Sxlf7,M1/Y, Tp(1;3)sn13a1 ( which

contains a duplication of Sxl+) and one copy of snf+ in the

transgene P{snf+,dhd+}, leads to 75% of males dying, and two

extra copies leads to complete lethality.

The addition of up to three copies of P{snf+,dhd+} to Sxlf1/Y;SxlF1.hs,

tra1 partially feminised males does not enhance the feminisation

or lethality phenotypes seen in these flies.

The addition of one copy of P{snf+,dhd+} to SxlMf1/Y males

reduces the viability of males to about 50% of the expected number.

The addition of two copies reduces the survival rate to about 3%.

The survivors exhibit a wide range of imaginal discs defects, including

thin or missing bristles, as well as small and rough eyes. Also feminizing

effects are also seen in the sex combs, the majority of flies show

some loss of sex combs, and only 1% had wild-type male sex combs.

Intersexuality is predominantly of the "mosaic" type in which individual

cells are either male or female rather than intermediate.

The addition of noi+t3.6 to SxlMf1/Y males with two copies

of P{snf+,dhd+} has no significant effect on the foreleg feminisation

phenotype seen in those flies.

There is a slight increase in the foreleg feminisation phenotype seen

in SxlMf1/Y males carrying two copies of P{snf+,dhd+}, when

you compare the addition of homozygous snRNP70K62, to heterozygous

snRNP70K62.

The removal of noi function (by adding noi2/noiD) leads to

an almost complete suppression of the foreleg feminisation phenotype

seen in SxlMf1/Y flies with two copies of P{snf+,dhd+}.

The addition of two copies of P{snf+,dhd+} to SxlMf1/Y males

that also carry noi2/noiD, leads to feminisation of the foreleg

and a reduction in viability.

SxlMf1/Y males with a single extra copy of P{snf+,dhd+},

are considerably more masculine after the addition of Df(1)J210 (which

causes snfJ210).

The addition of P{snf+,dhd+} to snf1, SxlM6/Y males,

completely removes the suppression of the SxlM6 lethality phenotype

seen when snf1 is added alone.

The addition of homozygous snRNP70K62 does not suppress the snf+t5.5

dose effects on SxlM12/Y male viability. Extra copies of P{snf+,dhd+}

do not suppress the homozygous snRNP70K62 phenotype.

The addition of noi2/noiD does not suppress the snf+t5.5

dose effects on SxlM12/Y male viability.

The addition of P{snf+,dhd+} has no effect on the male sterility

and developmental delay phenotypes seen in noi2/noiD, SxlM12/Y

males.
