Late overexpression of fzhs.PP induces multiple wing hairs.
When hot wax is applied to the wing tip - causing a gradient of fz activity - wing hairs show reversed polarity and point distal-to-proximal. When expressed late, just prior to hair initiation in pupae a multiple hair cell phenotype results.
Induces wing cells to form multiple wing hairs.

The addition of nkdScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Scer\GAL4hs.PB completely suppresses the wing hair polarity phenotype seen in fzhs.PP flies.
The addition of nkdScer\UAS.cZa and Scer\GAL4hs.PB completely suppresses the wing hair polarity phenotype seen in fzhs.PP flies.
When expressed just before prehair initiation, in a Vang mutant background, cells are still induced to form multiple hairs. Indeed, the Vang mutant background slightly enhances the formation of multiple hairs. Vang function is required for the ability of a gradient of fz expression (induced by distal waxing) to repolarize wing hairs.
Carried in a plasmid and transfected into S2 cells.
Carried in plasmid "hs-fz" and expressed in Schneider cells.
