Expression of E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-C253 results in a loss of thoracic bristles in the adult fly.

Flies expressing E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 have missing scutellar bristles.

Flies expressing E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 show loss of scutellar bristles.

Formation of sensory organ precursors (SOPs) of the femoral chordotonal sense organ is suppressed in leg discs in which E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68.

When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.PB, with two heat pulses of 45 minutes 8-24hr APF, adult flies display a variety of bristle phenotypes in two categories: bristle organ loss and aberrant bristle structures (e.g. double sockets, split shaft, multiple shafts or stunted/deformed bristle shafts). Earlier heat pulses promote bristle loss, later heat pulses promote aberrant bristles. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.PB, induced between 8 and 14 hr APF, microchaetae fail to develop. The neurons in the nota are correspondingly reduced or absent. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.PB, heat shock applied to late third instar larvae leads to a marked loss of notum macrochaetae, campaniform sensillae of the anterior crossvein and the third wing vein, and chemosensory bristles on the wing margin. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.PB, heat shocked at 15hr APF, gaps appear in the wing veins.

The loss of thoracic bristles seen in adults expressing E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-C253 is suppressed by co-expression of dgrnScer\UAS.P\T.cBa but is not suppressed by co-expression of either dgrnHCAA.Scer\UAS.P\T or dgrnΔSIMs.Scer\UAS.P\T.

Expression of both sensScer\UAS.cNa and E(spl)Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in a strong reduction in supernumerary bristles (seen when sensScer\UAS.cNa is expressed alone under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1) in most areas and occasionally loss of bristles.
