Mutant animals exhibit an increased sensitivity to cocaine.

The dorsal compartment is reduced in size in mutant wing discs. Increased cell death is seen in mutant wing discs compared to wild type. The excess cell death is restricted to the dorsal wing pouch. Hemizygous BxhdpR590/Y flies show a reduction in size of the wing and abnormalities in vein formation. Homozygous clones do not show any abnormality in the notum or ventral wing surface. Clones survive poorly in the dorsal wing surface compared to the ventral surface. Dorsal clones induced in early-mid third instar are smaller and fewer in number than clones in the ventral compartment of the same wings. Clones induced in the mid second instar do not survive until the end of the third instar in the dorsal compartment.

Flies have smaller than normal wings which are held in an abnormal position. The dorsal compartment is typically smaller than the ventral compartment, resulting in a slightly curled appearance. The pattern of wing veins is abnormal. Hemizygous wing discs have a reduced wing pouch.

One copy of pnrVX6 enhances the dorsocentral bristle loss seen in hemizygous BxhdpR590 mutant males. 90% of flies lack the anterior pair of bristles.

One copy of pnrMD237 enhances the dorsocentral bristle loss seen in hemizygous BxhdpR590 mutant males. 90% of flies lack the anterior pair of bristles.

Flies carrying one copy of ac1 and one copy of BxhdpR590 lack the anterior dorsocentral bristles. No phenotypes are observed in either heterozygote alone.

Flies carrying one copy of Chie5.5 and one copy of BxhdpR590 have a wild type number of dorsocentral bristles.

BxhdpR590 does not suppress the anterior dorsocentral bristle loss seen in ChiE/+ mutant flies.

The wing pouch is a normal size in BxhdpR590 wing discs expressing apΔHD.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-hdpR590. The severity of the BxhdpR590/Y wing phenotype is enhanced by one copy of fng13. The severity of the BxhdpR590/Y wing phenotype is partially suppressed by expression of fngEP3082 under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-hdpR590. The severity of the BxhdpR590/Y wing phenotype is enhanced by expression of SerScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-hdpR590. Chie5.5 clones in the dorsal compartment of BxhdpR590 wing discs are much larger than their twin spots, whereas those in the ventral compartment are comparable in size to their twin spots.

The BxhdpR590 phenotype can be suppressed by expression of ChiΔLID.Scer\UAS or apΔHD.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-hdpR590.
