Border cell migration is inhibited in jara.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 ovaries. Border cells in stage 9 jara.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 ovaries (n=50) lack protrusions commonly seen in wild-type border cells at this stage (35/152).
Flies expressing jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4fng-c606 die during the first larval instar stage. Flies expressing jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4C673 die during the second larval instar stage. The cuticle of third instar larvae expressing jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4C726b is abnormal; dark denticles are detected on both the ventral and dorsal sides of each segment (in wild-type larvae dark denticles are only detected on the ventral side, while the dorsal denticles are transparent). In some cases, the whole segment is surrounded by a circle of dark denticles. The organisation of the bristles both dorsally and ventrally often resembles the wild type ventral pattern. The larvae are much smaller than normal. Animals expressing jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4jar-C865 develop quite normally until late metamorphosis, but they fail to eclose from the pupal case. Many animals expressing jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c532 die as pharate adults and fail to eclose from the pupal case. Those that hatch have unexpanded wings and malformed legs which are bent, shortened and thickened. The flies are less active than wild-type files and die 3-4 days after eclosion. Oogenesis is stopped at stage 9 in females (it is normal up to this stage) and egg chambers degenerate after this stage. In stage 9 egg chambers, the "columnar" follicle cells are no longer columnar. Completed migration of the follicle cells is never seen, with the columnar migration being arrested at the initiation stage in most degenerating egg chambers. In these egg chambers, follicle cells mostly have abnormal shapes and nurse cell nuclei are usually degenerated. Centripetal migration is never seen. The epithelium is often disrupted and there may be several cells in the layer. The nuclei are abnormally positioned in the follicle cells. Border cell migration appears to be normal in many stage 9 egg chambers. Expression of jara.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4C535 results in flies with malformed legs and unexpanded wings.

Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6, jara.UAS has border follicle cell phenotype, suppressible | partially by slboUAS.cLa/Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6
Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6, jara.UAS has border follicle cell phenotype, non-suppressible by FakUAS.Tag:HA, Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6
The inhibition of border cell migration seen in the ovaries of jara.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 flies is significantly suppressed by the presence of shghs.PW under heat shock condition (flies raised at 29oC and given a 1 hour heat shock at 37oC 6-10 hours prior to dissection.). Partial suppression is also seen in flies carrying slboScer\UAS.cLa or shgScer\UAS.cSa, but not Fak56DScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1.
jara.UAS is partially rescued by jarHsp83.PH/Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6
jarHsp83.PH + heat shock, partially rescues border cell migration in the ovaries of jara.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 flies. (Flies raised at 29oC and given a 1 hour heat shock at 37oC 6-10 hours prior to dissection.)
