Expression of Cul-5EP3390 in the wing and haltere disc under the control of Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1 at 29[o]C results in a striking reduction in the size of the wing blade and haltere, and short blistered wings form. Wing discs from third instar larvae show increased proliferation of the wing pouch region.

Expression of Cul-5EP3390 in the distal epidermal segments under the control of Scer\GAL4Dll-981 results in a loss of terminal structures including the arista on the antennal funiculus and the tarsi on the adult legs.

Ectopic expression of Cul-5EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-P309 results in a reduced number of mechanosensory bristles (macrochaete) on the notum. 30% of sensory organ progenitors develop two PIIb-like cells and no PIIa lineage is observed. Sensory organ cluster cell number is variable in these animals, and often composed of more than 4 cells.

Flies expressing Cul-5EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 have an indented thorax, with multiple hairs from a single socket on the notum, and reduction in size of the third segment of the antenna.

Expression of Cul-5EP3390 in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in adults with small eyes.

Expression of Cul-5EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4wg.PM results in flies with wing defects and duplicated antennae.

Expression of Cul-5EP3390 in all neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU, or in motorneurons under the control of Scer\GAL4pros.PMG, both results in a significant increase in the number of boutons at the neuromuscular junction of larval body wall muscles.

Expression of EP3390EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in eyes that are slightly reduced in size. Flies expressing EP3390EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E have wild-type wings.

Expression of EP3390EP3390 under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 results in loss of external support cells of the macrochaetae and microchaetae on the notum and duplication of sheath cells (in rare cases up to 4 sheath cells are present). Shafts with a branched tip are seen.
