Clones of bon21B in wing imaginal discs are small and highly apoptotic.

Homozygous males and females die as first instar larvae. bon21B/+ enhances the variegation of the w gene in the P{SUPor-P}25-4-3 insertion, but suppresses the variegation of the y gene in the same P{SUPor-P}25-4-3 insertion. bon21B/+ enhances the variegation of the w gene in the In(1)wm4h chromosome. bon21B/+ suppresses the variegation of the y gene in the Dp(1;f)γ878 chromosome.

bon21B/Df(3R)H-B79 embryos fully develop, however many fail to hatch from the egg case. Both embryos and larvae have disrupted fluid-filled trachea. Most bonS048706/bon21B pupae have an almost complete lack of pigmentation. They initiate but fail to complete development of the legs, wings, head, eyes and cuticle. Salivary glands are still present 4 days post-pupariation (they normally undergo apoptosis at 12 hours post-pupariation) and are similar in size to third instar salivary glands. Loss of bon function in the eye results in loss of all mutant photoreceptors and much of the head cuticle is missing.

    Additional Comments
    Genetic Interactions
    Statement
    Reference

A bon21B background strongly suppresses the rough eye phenotype related to fru isoform B, found upon expression of fruNP0021 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.

Expression of p53dsRNA.Scer\UAS suppresses apoptosis in bon21B clones and leads to a significant increase in bon21B clone size.

80.8% of Mybel2507/Y ; bon21B/+ animals survive to the third larval instar. The lethality of Mybel1 hemizygotes is not affected if the flies also carry one copy of bon21B.
