The P{EP} element is inserted 45 nucleotides 5' to the first non-coding exon of Doa (55kDa) and 780 nucleotides 5' to its initiating AUG.

The P{EP}DoaEP3080 insertion maps within both Doa and CG33203 (overlapping genes on opposite strands).

Reference

Expression of DoaEP3080 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in slight eye roughness and occasional minor ommatidial disorganisation. Ectopic wing vein formation is seen in the anterior compartment of the wing blade between L1 and L2.

Expression of DoaEP3080 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in substantial ommatidial fusion and disorganisation. Small holes are seen in the surface of the ommatidia at high magnification. Supernumerary pigment cells and rhabdomeres are present.

Expression of DoaEP3080 under the control of Scer\GAL4Lsp2.PH results in complete male lethality when Scer\GAL4Lsp2.PH females are crossed with DoaEP3080 males. In the reciprocal cross 18% of the progeny (instead of the 50% expected) are male. Lethality occurs at the embryonic stage. The males do not exhibit any abnormal phenotypes.
