Expression of SnapScer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 shows varying phenotypes according to the SnapScer\UAS.cPa insertion used. Larvae carrying the P{UAS-Snap.P}1 insertion show no difference in their neurotransmitter release parameters with respect to controls and survive to adulthood. In contrast, animals carrying the P{UAS-Snap.P}5 insertion show embryonic lethality when combined with the Scer\GAL4elav-C155 driver.

Expression of SnapScer\UAS.cPa via the Scer\GAL4OK6 driver allows survival with the P{UAS-Snap.P}5 insertion to the third stage of larval development, although these larvae are nearly paralyzed and display severe electrophysiological defects. The neuromuscular junctions show a dramatic reduction in axonal branching and bouton number.

Adults carrying the P{UAS-Snap.P}1 insertion, from which Snap is overexpressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155, show wing inflation defects.

Expression of SnapScer\UAS.cPa from the P{UAS-Snap.P}1 insertion, driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, results in mildly rough eyes containing patches of necrotic tissue. Expression from the stronger P{UAS-Snap.P}5 insertion, with Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, results in almost complete ablation of the eye.

When SnapScer\UAS.cPa, Scer\GAL4hs.PB mutant third instar larvae are subjected to heat treatment, their wing and leg imaginal discs show a phenotype in the morphology of the golgi area. The proportion of membrane that forms cisternae increases from about 30% (in heat shocked controls) to about 55%. About 68% of these are stacked compared top about 30% in controls. There is also an increase in the volume density of golgi membrane in these discs (about 2.7 times that seen in wild-type).

Expression of SnapScer\UAS.cPa from the P{UAS-Snap.P}1 in a Nsf255 or Syx1AΔ229 background results in an enhancement of the SnapScer\UAS.cPa phenotype in the eye, including increased necrosis around the perimeter of the compound eye and more dramatic furrowing at ommatidial junctions.

Co-expression of either comtScer\UAS.cGa or Nsf2Scer\UAS.cGa with SnapScer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF suppresses the eye phenotypes of the weaker P{UAS-Snap.P}1 insertion and partially suppresses the eye ablation phenotype of the stronger P{UAS-Snap.P}5 insertion. Furthermore, coexpression of either comtScer\UAS.cGa or Nsf2Scer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155 completely suppresses the wing inflation defect of Scer\GAL4elav-C155>SnapScer\UAS.cPa flies.
