Expression of Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c at 25[o]C results in partial lethality. Surviving adult escapers show a defect in abdominal development; in 96% of flies, the adult hemitergites fail to properly fuse at the dorsal midline.

Expression of Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c at 27.5[o]C results in almost complete lethality.

Surviving escapers expressing Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c in a Cask03902/+ background have tergites that appear thinner than normal and retain only the posterior pigmented band, resulting in an apparent expansion of the intertergal region.

Heterozygosity for Fs(2)KetRE34 or Fs(2)KetRX41 results in a slight increase in the viability of animals expressing Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c at 25[o]C and results in significantly increased viability of these animals at 27.5[o]C. The defects in tergite morphology are less severe in adult escapers expressing Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4e22c if they are also heterozygous for Fs(2)KetRE34 or Fs(2)KetRX41.

Expression of Kap-α1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using heat shock partially rescues the sterility of PenD14 males.
