Co-expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C results in reduced viability and fertility, as well as eye degeneration. Raising the flies at 18[o]C restores fertility, whilst maintaining the eye degeneration. Retinal cells such as photoreceptors and cone cells exhibit degeneration and there is complete disarray of the ommatidia structure and accumulation of membrane-dense vacuoles. After 4 weeks the retinal structure has completely degenerated except for the corneal lens exocuticle. Prominent cell death is seen in the differentiation ommatidia in eye disc and autophagic flux is increased.

Expression of GyfHM05106 dramatically suppresses the eye degeneration and eye disc cell death seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C. However, the photoreceptor morphology is not fully restored. The increased autophagic flux in eye discs is also suppressed.

Expression of Atg1JF02273 completely suppresses the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.

Expression of 4EHPGL01035 completely does not suppress the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.

Expression of picoGD7437 does not suppress the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.
