Reduction of sns through the expression of snsdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in mild defects including mis-positioned inter-ommatidial cell and bristles. Ommatidia are nonetheless well separated from each other as in wild-type.

Reduction of both sns and kirre expression through kirredsRNA.Scer\UAS and snsdsRNA.Scer\UAS expression under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF enhances slightly the patterning defects seen in kirre down-regulation. Deleted, extra cells ('cone contact cells') are frequently found in direct contact with cone cell quartets. Depletion occasionally leads to inter-ommatidial cells occurring in multiple rows between ommatidia. In each case, ommatidial spacing is nonetheless nearly indistinguishable from single knock-down of sns alone.
Simultaneous disruption of sns and hbs through co-expression of snsdsRNA.Scer\UAS and hbsIR.Scer\UAS leads to the direct contact of 27.2% of ommatidia and complete failure of inter-ommatidial cells to sort into single file. These phenotypes represent a strong enhancement of either knockdown alone.
