    Detailed Description

Expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in a small wing phenotype.

Expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.PU results in a nicked wing phenotype.

Scer\GAL4[h.PU]Expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4h.PU results in denticle belt defects in the embryo.

Expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in eyes with a very reduced ventral region and a profoundly distorted dorsal/ventral boundary. Apoptosis is seen in the ventral region of the eye disc during the first larval instar stage and in the organiser region of the eye disc at the late third larval instar stage in these animals.

    Reference

Flies expressing DlScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH and also carrying the P{GSV1}lolaGS88A8 insertion (which causes overexpression of psq and lola) show an eye tumour phenotype. In addition, distant metastasis in the thorax and abdomen is seen in 15% of cases. Co-expression of mir-8SC1 significantly reduces the primary eye tumour size, completely inhibits the incidence of metastases and results in a high incidence of adult lethality.

Co-expression of SerScer\UAS.cSa suppresses the loss of ventral eye tissue caused by expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.

Co-expression of GugScer\UAS.cCa does not suppress the loss of ventral eye tissue caused by expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.

SerRX106/+ markedly enhances the loss of eye tissue caused by expression of mir-8SC1 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.
