Border cells do not migrate in slbo01310/slboe7b females. Homozygous females show defects in border cell migration.

Border cell migration is defective in slbo01310 egg chambers.

Marker analysis shows that polarisation of the border cell cluster is disrupted in slbo01310 flies.

Mutant border cells migrate poorly.

Weakly fertile allele. The border cells fail to migrate in mutant egg chambers; the border cells are present at the tip of the egg chamber at stage 10, in contrast to wild type.

Border cells remain at the tip of the egg chamber in homozygous stage 10 egg chambers.

Border cells fail to migrate in slbo01310/slbory8ex2d egg chambers.

The border follicle cell cluster remains at the anterior tip in stage 9 slbo01310 follicles. Border cell clusters occasionally penetrate between nurse cells in stage 10b or stage 11 follicles. Typically, only a few border cells slide between nurse cells while other cells of the cluster remain at the periphery of the follicle.

Border follicle cells show some migration in 3.4% of homozygous egg chambers, a level which is not sufficient for fertility.

Defect in the initiation of border cell migration.

Homozygous females are sterile; they lay eggs but they are never fertilised. The border follicle cells fail to migrate in homozygous egg chambers. slbo01310/+ ; Ets97Dtne-1/Df(3R)ro80b females do not lay any eggs. The ovaries of these flies contain fewer egg chambers that have developed to stage 9 and beyond compared to those of control +/+ ; slbo01310/+ ; Ets97Dtne-1/Df(3R)ro80b flies.

Egg chambers from slbo01310 homozygous females show failure of border cell migration but this phenotype is not absolute because 5% of eggs laid do develop, as a result of migration of border cells that do migrate along the wild type path, albeit 5 hours later than in wild type.

Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6>tjNIG.10034R enhances the slbo01310 border cell cluster migration defects in the ovary.

Overexpression of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6>tjScer\UAS.cGa in slbo01310 mutants causes a complete blockage of border cell cluster migration.

trblEP1119/trblEP1119 partially suppresses the border cell migration defects seen in slbo01310/slbo01310 females.

Expression of staiScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 does not rescue the border cell migration defects seen in homozygous slbo01310 females.

Females expressing Six4Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 in a slbo01310/+ background show defects in border cell migration.

Expression of aopScer\UAS.cRa, driven by Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6, weakly enhances border cell migration defects in slbo01310 egg chambers, while expression of aopACT.Scer\UAS (also driven by Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6) strongly enhances this phenotype.

When Stat92EEPg31485 (driven by Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6) is added to slbo01310 mutants a suppression of the border cell phenotype is seen.

The border cells fail to migrate in the slbo01310 jing22F3 double mutant background, although the border cells are still present. Border cell migration is rescued in slbory8/slbo01310, slbo01310/slbo01310 or slbory7/slbo01310 egg chambers when jinghs.PL is expressed using a 1 hour heat shock (and then the flies are kept at 18oC for 20 hours to allow migration to occur). jinghs.PL does not rescue the border cell migration defects of slbo01310/slboe7b.

Expression of Ubp64EScer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 significantly suppresses the slbo01310 border cell migration phenotype.

The sterility and abnormal border follicle cell migration phenotype of slbo01310 females is suppressed when AblEP3101, Hsp27EP329 or α-AdaptinEP2519 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6. The border follicle cell migration phenotype of slbo01310 females is suppressed by EP2585EP2585 both in the absence of a Scer\GAL4 driver, and more strongly in the presence of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6.

bnlScer\UAS.P\T.cRa does not suppress the stalled border cell phenotype of slbo01310 females when expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16.

Border cell migration and fertility defects of slbo01310 can be rescued by btlhs.PM. Egg chambers appear healthy and no abnormalities result from the over-expression of btl.

16 of 20 excision lines generated with P{Δ2-3}99B from slbo01310 had restored fertility.
