Deletion in the sc regulatory region.
scase-1 mutant fles exhibit defects in mechanosensory bristles, including a split shaft, two to three shafts arising from a single socket, an empty socket or a complete duplication.
Mutants show loss of the postvertical and scutellar bristles.
In female D.simulans/D.melanogaster hybrids heterozygous for scase-1 the anterior scutellar bristle, posterior scutellar bristle, anterior dorsocentral bristle and the posterior dorsocentral bristle are lost at a high frequency compared to female D.simulans/D.melanogaster hybrid controls, when grown at 18oC.
The number of bractless bristles on the basitarsi of the second legs is reduced.

mod(mdg4)ul, scase-1 has ocellar bristle phenotype
Expression of aseScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB suppresses the mechanosensory bristle defects found in scase-1 mutants. The number of defective bristles in scase-1 flies is reduced from an average of 9.7 to 2.5 bristles per fly.
Overexpression of tupdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 in a scase-1 mutant background does not lead to the formation of supernumerary scutellar bristles.
No significant increase in the number of scutellar bristles above the scase-1 background is observed when tupex4 clones are induced in a scase-1 mutant background.
Df(1)ase-1 ; mod(mdg4)ul/mod(mdg4)ul animals show loss of a number of bristles. Bristle pigmentation is normal in these animals.
The addition of scase-1 strongly enhances the neuronal differentiation defects seen in Df(2R)Jp7/Df(2R)Jp8 embryos. Occasionally it appeared that the scolopale cell was inappropriately stained with neuronal markers. Some cells staining for neuronal markers appear to have lost their distinctive neuronal morphology. These embryos also had defects not seen in Df(2R)Jp7/Df(2R)Jp8 or scase-1 embryos. Neurons of the dorsal and lateral sensory neuron groups have poorly formed or misrouted axons, and in extreme cases axons are entirely missing.
Expression of Tcas\aseScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB suppresses the mechanosensory bristle defects found in scase-1 mutants. The number of defective bristles in scase-1 flies is reduced from an average of 9.7 to 4.9 bristles per fly.
Expression of Zzzz\ASH2Scer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB suppresses the mechanosensory bristle defects found in scase-1 mutants. The number of defective bristles in scase-1 flies is reduced from an average of 9.7 to 3.9 bristles per fly.
scase-1 is not rescued by scUAS.cUa/Scer\GAL4hs.PB
Expression of scScer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB fails to rescue the mechanosensory bristle defects found in scase-1 mutants.
Dubinin, 1928.
The adult phenotype of Df(1)ase-1, except for the mechanosensory bristle aspect, is due to a perturbation of the nearby sc gene: the defect is not complemented by sc10-1. The mechanosensory bristle aspect of the phenotype is rescued by the P{ase-G:4.8} and P{ase-G:3.5} constructs. The ventral sensillum campaniformium phenotype is partly rescued.
