Detailed Description

Expressing mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH does not cause any overt eye overgrowth.

The number of spermatogonial cysts per testis is increased in males expressing mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG compared to control males.

Expression of mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF leads to rough eyes. Expression in the larval eye disc causes the production of ectopic R7 photoreceptor neurons in ommatidia, which can still be observed at later stages of eye development.

Co-expression of mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb and DlScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in overgrown eye discs, resulting in overgrown and folded eyes in 70% of flies.

Expression of boiScer\UAS.cHa fully suppresses the eye disc overgrowth seen when mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb and DlScer\UAS.cDa are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.

Expression of hhScer\UAS.cCa suppresses the eye overgrowth phenotype seen when DlScer\UAS.cDa and mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb are expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH. The phenotype is seen with 100% penetrance.

Expression of ciScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 partially suppresses the eye overgrowth phenotype seen when DlScer\UAS.cDa and mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb are expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH. Many eyes are substantially reduced in size but still exhibit abnormal patterned growth.

The increase in the number of spermatogonial cysts per testis that is seen in males expressing mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG is suppressed if they are also expressing bamhs.PO.

Coexpression of the EgfrDN.Scer\UAS and mir-7Scer\UAS.cLb transgenes, under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, results in ommatidia with ectopic photoreceptor cells. The positions of these cells suggest they are R3 and R4.
