Detailed Description

Expression of Lrp4KK101962 results in the decreased synapse number (assessed by counting active zone marker puncta) in the VA1v olfactory receptor neurons (with the Scer\GAL4peb-GAL4 driver) or excitatory projection neurons terminating in the lateral horn (with Scer\GAL4Mz19) but not in Gad1-positive inhibitory neurons (with the Scer\GAL4Gad1.3.098 driver) or in the inhibitory projection neurons terminating in the lateral horn (with Scer\GAL4Mz699), while the neurite volume remains unaffected compared to controls in all cases.

Scer\GAL4peb-GAL4-driven expression of Lrp4KK101962 also results in a complete loss of olfactory attraction of adult flies to an attractive odorant (apple cider vinegar) in a trap assay. This lack of olfactory attraction behavior is not due to general defects in locomotion.

The loss of olfactory attraction behavior in response to an attractive odorant (apple cider vinegar) in adult flies expressing Lrp4KK101962 under the control of Scer\GAL4peb-GAL4 is ameliorated by co-expression of GABA-B-R2dsRNA.Scer\UAS while the decreased active zone number in olfactory receptor neurons is not suppressed.
