Detailed Description

Neuronal expression of SREBPScer\UAS.cKa (under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU) leads to glial cell specific lipid droplet accumulation. Neuronal expression of SREBPScer\UAS.cKa alone does not cause neurodegeneration upon aging and lipid droplets are retained in aged animals. Lipid peroxidation is unchanged in these animals, compared to controls.

Glial expression of SREBPScer\UAS.cKa (under the control of Scer\GAL454C) does not lead to lipid droplet accumulation.

The accumulation of lipid droplets in the retinal glia of adult flies expressing SREBPUAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS is significantly suppressed by co-expression of any of the following: SlnGD1940, SlnKK104306, outGD3448, outKK104187, LdhHMS00039, PdhaGD12103 or PdhaKK101856.

Comments

Expression of HLH106Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4OK376 in a HLH106189 mutant background rescues lethality the majority of animals.

Expression of HLH106Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4Switch1.106 in the presence of RU486 allows HLH106189 homozygotes to survive to pupariation and emerge as adults. The rescued adults survive at least two weeks in the absence of RU486.
