Homozygous and hemizygous larvae do not show a significant hunching response to vibration, in contrast to wild-type controls.

The electrophysiological response of the auditory nerve to mating songs is significantly reduced in homozygous adults compared to wild type.

Mutant scolopale cells of the Johnston's organ are dysmorphic and appear collapsed and ruptured. In addition the Johnston's organ sensory neurons often show accumulation of vacuolar structures.

Actin organisation at the muscle attachment site (MAS) between lateral-ventral somatic muscles 6 and 7 in abdominal segments is severely disrupted in mutant larvae, resulting in a jagged boundary. There is a significantly enlarged gap between actin filaments from adjacent muscles at most MASs. Larger junctional invaginations are seen at the mutant MAS than in wild type and integrin distribution is broader than normal. Aberrant muscle structure, with Z-lines oriented perpendicular to the MAS, is seen in approximately 30% of larvae. The parallel arrangement of actomyosin filaments is disrupted close to the muscle membrane in approximately 15% of larvae. MASs of lateral transverse muscles appear normal.
