Description

The P{EPgy2} insertion is within the first exon of mib1.

P{EPgy2}mib1EY09780 is inserted 96 nucleotides upstream of the putative mib1 translation start site, although the promoter of the EP transgene points away from the mib1 coding sequence.

Pharate mib1EY97600 flies are eyeless, have vestigial wings, and display squat legs lacking joints. mib1EY97600 mutant wing discs display a severely reduced wing pouch. Sensory organ precursors are singularized normally.

Mutant legs show growth and elongation defects that result in short unsegmented legs.

mib1EY09780 mutant clones do not exhibit lateral inhibition defects in third instar nota. mib1EY09780 homozygous mutants survive to the pupal stage and have a good percentage of pharate adult escapers. These have small, almost non-existent, eyes and wings, and short legs. mib1EY09780 pharate adults exhibit a mild increase in microchaete density and only occasional macrochaete duplications.

mib1EY09780 homozygous larvae, as well as mib1EY09780/Df(3L)brm11 hemizygotes have abnormally small wing and eye imaginal discs and die as pupae. mib1EY09780 mutant clones form normal patterns of macro- and microchaetes, except that the density of microchaetes is somewhat higher than normal and some macrochaetes (particularly scutellar bristles) are occasionally duplicated. However, each bristle organ itself appears morphologically normal.

mib1EY09780 SerRX106 double mutant clones do not exhibit lateral inhibition defects in third instar nota. mib1EY09780 neur1 third instar nota clones exhibit at least eight sensory organ precursors (SOPs) in approximately 82.5% of SOP positions scored. Approximately 17.5% of SOP positions display between four and eight ectopic SOPs. No wild-type SOPs are found. mib1EY09780 DlRevF10 third instar nota clones exhibit at least eight sensory organ precursors (SOPs) in approximately 40% of SOP positions scored. Approximately 45% of SOP positions display between four and eight ectopic SOPs, while approximately 5% exhibit between one and four SOPs, with 10% exhibiting one SOP, as in wild-type. Induction of neur1 mutant clones in a homozygous mib1EY09780 background results in a large number of ectopic sensory organ precursors.
