Venus is a yellow fluorescent protein with an excitation peak of 515nm and an emission peak of 528nm in vitro (PMID:11753368). It is an artificial derivative of the naturally occurring fluorescent protein encoded by the Aequorea victoria GFP gene (UniProtKB:P42212) and contains the mutations F46L, F64L, S65G, V68L, S72A, M153T, V163A, S175G and T203Y relative to the wild-type GFP sequence (PMID:16716067). The A206K mutation that disrupts dimerization (PMID:11988576) may also be present, resulting in a monomeric form in this case.
